Hi My name is Duncan Brebner, Director at Favell Homes.
I’ve been in the building industry for some 26 years, I started out as a site labourer and then went back to university to gain my HND in Management Construction at Nene university where I passed with merits and distinctions.
From there I went on to work for the National House Builders including Northampton builders, Wilcon Homes and David Wilsons where I became an award winning site manager in my early days.
After a spell at the National House Builders, my calling came from the Bespoke Development sector of the industry. I moved to individual homes where I specialised in some the very first shoe factory conversions into apartments and undertook several quality bespoke projects including the renovation of Great Houghton House, renovating Boughton Hall, renovation of Great Houghton Barns and finally Boughton Grange giving me a wealth of experience in historic building renovation.
I then started to development for myself some of these projects you can see in the Project page. All the schemes that I have undertaken are very bespoke in their nature, the initial attention to detail begins at the design stage, ensuring a flow of space, that all rooms are utilised fully, position the building to gain the maximum benefit from the sun to ensure a light airy space. This process can take numerous redesigns to get it just right!
The next step is to ensure that the right quality of materials is used and that the right tradesman places them and then finally it’s the quality control monitoring during the build process and checking the build once its completed.
Getting the right build detail and ensuring that its delivered in the correct manner on site is imperative. The right overhang, right weight of material, well-executed details can make or break a build!
Build details can become quite obsessive to a master builder, I can spend a good hour looking at a historic building to dissect the building’s detail to gain an understanding of how its put together.
